Our Mission

Bryn Mawr Church seeks to fulfill its mission as it:

  • Worships Joyfully – our life centers around worship. We sing, hear scripture, share personal and community concerns during prayers and enjoy a variety of music from our pianist, our mixed choir and the Cedar Lake Seven Men’s Gospel Choir.

  • Creates Community – our congregation has grown to include all kinds of people, young and old, partnered and single, from the neighborhood, raised Presbyterian, Catholic, Lutheran, no church affiliation whatsoever. We are spiritually diverse and share a variety of perspectives on theology and social issues.

  • Seeks to Be Inclusive – we welcome all who come are way and are happy that after years of dreaming and planning our building is fully accessible as well. We are a member of More Light Presbyterians. Following the risen Christ, and seeking to make the Church a true community of hospitality, the mission of More Light Presbyterians is to work for the full participation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people of faith in the life, ministry, and witness of the Presbyterian Church (USA).

  • Encourages the Spiritual Journey – our members come from diverse religious backgrounds, and a diversity of beliefs and approaches to God thrives within the church community. Our Adult Education covers a wide variety of topics from spirituality and food to how we live out our faith in the community. Thoughtful discussion of the Bible is important, but so is cultivating a life of prayer, concern for one another, and time to reflect on our experience of God in daily life.

  • Serves Humanity through Christ’s Example – Jesus sets the example for how we are to live our lives in service to others. We pay special attention to Jesus' embrace of all people, including those on the margins of society. We seek to follow Jesus' model of inclusivity, love and justice for all people. This gets lived out in many ways through the commitments of our members who are active in the local community serving in the areas of hunger concerns, peacemaking, environmentalism and more.

  • Expresses God’s Love – our sense of mission beyond our doors includes our support of St. Anne’s Place, a nearby homeless shelter for women and children and the Every Meal hunger program. We also support a variety of organizations that promote peace making, helping people develop skills for life and work, disaster assistance and hunger.
